AGM minutes

Hi All. Apologies for the delay in circulating, we wanted to wait on the ES guidance and finalisation of meal costs.

Thanks

AGM: Lee Washburn, Jenny Washburn, Ged Shields, Eric Southern, Rod Howell, David Liveesy-Sim, Jim Powlson, Uche Azubuike, Steve Spedding.

Apologies: Rob Green

Review of the 23/24 season

Season started well however there were a disproportionate number of injuries affecting all teams. First and second team did well despite this, however thirds demoted and fourths unfortuntatley didn’t get many matches played second half.

Ladies team did well considering there were only 5 players for the season, however unlikely to get a team out for 24/25 season.

Election of committee

Chairman: Lee
Vice: Rod
Secretary: Jim

Teams for 24/25 and captains:

Men’s 1: Lee
Men’s 2: Jamie
Men’s 3: Jen

Meals: We have managed to negotiate retaining Relish at £8 a head after a long discussion as Relish had wanted to increase their prices. Relish have agreed to retain £8 a head for the 24/25 season, however, have informed us this will have to be increased if we want to continue with them for the 25/26 season.

England squash membership: England Squash membership has now officially changed; all players should have had an email informing them of the membership options. The club will still pay for the courts - this has increased from £45 to £75 per court, which means Barnton is eligible to play in the Northwest Counties League.
The recommendation from our NWCSL committee is that they encourage all players to affiliate to England Squash as the NWCSL receive a rebate for all players affiliated to England squash, this money is used by NWCSL to promote and develop squash in the counties and support junior squash, marking and referee courses and supporting county teams at junior through to senior level.

AOB:

• Court cleaning - highly dusty, Lee will pick up with the Club Committee.
• Court lights - concerns they are too bright, however nothing can be done to change the angles / brightness unfortunately.
• Players showing on the NWCSL who have sadly passed. We will look at England Squash admin dashboard and see if we can remove.
• Court 2 - service line - needs fixing. Will look to sort at the maintenance day.
• Painting for changing rooms - complete.
• Shower in men’s - needs fixing – complete.
• Pole for men’s curtain needs replacing
• Double booking courts - number of concerns raised of people booking 2 back to back courts so can straddle them - suggestion: make court bookings for an hour rather than 40 mins, however will mean less bookable courts of an evening, and as this issue only happens occasionally it was agreed it isn’t worth the cost impact of less available courts and the admin fee to ‘My Courts’ for changing the site. Additional, alternate suggestion - reduce to one court booking per person per day, however restrictive for groups playing / coaching etc.
• polite request to consider others rather than booking back to back courts and taking 80 mins of court time for a 40min game.

• Pre-season training to be run by Rod, will start at 6:20 onwards on Mondays – Rob will put a sign-up sheet up in the club a week before it commences.
• Promotion of the section locally - newspaper articles, promote Twitter, Instagram etc - David will pick up.
• Suggestion to change the overall club sign to reflect wider than just a cricket club- will speak to the Club Committee.
• Updates to the main club website – Lee believes this is being updated so will speak to the Club Committee.
• Requirement to override social court bookings on occasion – there has been two occasions in the last 12 months where social bookings have had to be moved or reduced due to NWCSL matches, this was met with frustration by a member. It is a club rule that we reserve the right to change social bookings where we may need to rearrange matches - which will happen very irregularly. All attendees at the AGM agreed this is reasonable.
• Update Barnton CC squash on ES website.
• Leave a Google review to help clicks.
• T-shirts – agreed no new T-shirts for 24/25 season.
• Maintenance day - options for dates will be circulated in the WhatsApp group.
• Thanks to the chairman for everything he does.
